Book 9: Final score

We have about one week of reading left for your timely completion of this month's selection, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.  Based on the emails and messages I've received this week, it sounds as though we're split into two camps:
1) Those who have finished this book
2) Those who were stuck in a line at the Hennepin County Library system that is longer than the checkout line on opening day at IKEA (and that's saying A LOT)

If you haven't gotten your hands on a copy of this book, it's time to run to Target, borrow one from your neighbor, or wait outside the drop box at the library for someone to drop off their copy (note: illegal use of library privileges not endorsed by this book club).  If you've already finished, it's time to give the book your final rating.

***** = This was one of the best books I've ever read.
**** = It was a great book, I'd definitely recommend it.
*** = It was pretty good.
** = There were some parts that were OK, but overall not great.
* = Not great.  At all.
0 = Didn't quite get around to this one.

Also, if you found a Pinot Noir that you really liked for this month's wine pairing, let me know.  I had Pinot Noir for the first time this month and I LOVED it.  I could use some recommendations.  I mean WE could use some recommendations.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was wonderful, and so filled with details about the lives of these girls that I felt like it was real. I've read a few other books where the characters described footbinding and their lives in China, but none as captivating as this one. I would re-read this book and would pass it on to friends (Sevda has my copy now).

I stayed up until about 1am last night to finish this -- I couldn't put it down!

I really loved this book; it made me feel more deeply than any book I've recently read -- I cried, I ached, I really got into the lives and stories as they unfolded.

I will be passing this along to my mom next!

I loved this book! I went on a reading bender on Monday and Tuesday and had it finished in about a 30 hour time span. I liked how it followed just the one story line with Snow Flower and the writer. I did have to check out footbinding on Wikipedia though, I just could not get a visual from the book. A friend of mine has a college student from CHina staying with her right now and we asked her some questions about footbinding and found out her grandmother had bound feet. I could not imagine...
I would need a lot of wine to bear that process, my favorite beng Le Grand Noir Pinor Noir. I originally picked it because I liked the label and it has become my favorite. I like all of the LeGrand Noir wines.

I know this is a late trackback but there was just this piece on NPR about some foot-bound Chinese who are still out there. Check it out: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=8966942
